Totally Biased Fan Review: Andy Penkow – Sad Love Songs

When I heard Drowning in the Whiskey, I was sold on this guy. Such a great song. So many country songs about Whiskey, and it is one drink that I don’t indulge in, ( though I do like the occasional Bourbon and Coke, which is much the same).  I really like the mellow tones of Andy Penkow.. He has a distinctive sound and a very easy going sound that makes you chill out and kick back.

California is a bit funky and groovy. A shower song contender for sure.

Keeping us Apart  is in much the same mode as the first track, with weeping guitars and a very country sentiment.

Andy goes from one upbeat song to a more slower kind of song. One Headlight On has a Keith Urban beat (as is inferred) but it also has a switch in pace.

Sunlight is one of my favourite tracks on the album. It has such a sweet refrain but it will appeal to those who don’t follow country music.

Songbird is not the Fleetwood Mac track, but a bit of a companion piece to the last track.

A House we used to call home could not get more country…lovely.

The title track is awesome. I really love this song. One of my favourite songs this year.

Not This Old House that you old rockers may be thinking of (myself included) but a song that I can relate to and a bit like Cornell and Carr’s beautiful current song….same sentiment.

Goodbye is such a powerful song.

This album will appeal to music fans from lots of genres. It is a hard album not to love. I hope that we hear more from Andy.

I wish that I had known about this artist and this album sooner. How wonderful is this singer/songwriter and they are definitely “Kaz” songs. Man, great voice, wonderful songwriting and my kind of country music.
Rod is one of my favourite musos and producers and he never puts a foot wrong. It is hard to find information on Andy, other than the fact that he lives on the South Coast of NSW. The good thing is that he comes into contention for the Kazzies, because the album was released after the last Kazzies in December ’18. What is better news for you folks out there, is that this is a brilliant album, full of fabulous love songs…..and yes, a lot of them are sad and also powerful.
