The Single Life – 14th June, 2024

Kevin Sullivan – The Journey

The album is out soon, but in the meantime, let us go on a journey with Kevin. It is obviously autobiographical and it is probably one of Kevin’s best yet.

Michael Waugh – Beauty and Truth

From one of my country music brothers to another. Michael ticks all the boxes as a songwriter and as a human being. He can conjure up a smile and a laugh and he can make you cry. This song must have been so hard for him to write and to sing but I understand how necessary it was for him to do so. An absolute corker.

Riley Catherall – South of Somewhere

And now to a country music grandson. I have said it many times, and I stick by it, from the moment that I heard Riley’s first song, I knew that he was going to go on to big things. He has a voice which is unique and he writes songs which resonate. He has a new album out today, but in the meantime, enjoy this one.

Jake Whittaker – The Next You’re Gone

A solid offering of a mixed tempo song. It starts quietly and then it builds. One to watch.

Zac Cross Band – If You Have To Know

A modern country love song and a fine one at that. Some cool guitar work.

Jeremy Beggs – Been Looking For

I actually saw Jeremy perform on the weekend for the first time. He was in the show before the show that I was going to but he ended up in that one too, because he was a perfect fit. He played his guitar when two strings broke. His songs are Americana/Alt Country. His voice is strong. One to watch.

Matt Scullion (feat. Ted Egan) – Beer Box Man

There are very few Australian Country Music artists more Aussie than Matt Scullion, so it is apt that he is singing this song about the unofficial king of Alice Springs. Ted has been entertaining us for decades, unique and infamous.

Matt Ward – The Last Night

From one Matt to another. Both sing raw country music songs about every day things. Their styles are different but they both cover a gamut of emotions and sing about subjects which we all live through at some stage. It is a sad song, but it is a good one.

Brittany Elise – Girl in the Mirror

Brittany is one of our most underrated artists. I have followed her for a long time now. This is probably her best song yet, quite breathtaking, really. Give it a spin.

Katie Jayne – Too Big For Your Boots

Get your dancing shoes (or boots) on. Some beaut guitar work on this song – some fifties/sixties like riffs. It is a fun song with a lot of kick.

Ben Walker – Railway Train

I listen to every song with train in the title, that’s just my thang. They very rarely let me down. This one is no exception. Ben has a very easy on the ear voice. It is a good, solid song. I look forward to hearing more.
