Totally Biased Fan Review: Runnin’ Outta Time – Lily Rose EEP

  1. The Goal” (Lily Rose, Paul DiGiovanni, Trannie Anderson, Seth Ennis)
  2. “Back Pew” (Lily Rose, Emily Weisband, Andy Albert, Paul DiGiovanni)
  3. “Parking Lot” (Lily Rose, Lindsay Rimes, John Pierce)
  4. “True North” (Lily Rose, Trannie Anderson, Hillary Lindsey, David Garcia)
  5. “Two Flowers” (Lily Rose, Blake Pendergrass, Paul DiGiovanni)
  6. “Runnin’ Outta Time” (Lily Rose, Lydia Vaughan, Blake Pendergrass, David Garcia)

The gal with two flower names brings us this cool EEP. Lily Rose has a strong voice, sometimes reminiscent of our Kelly Brouhaha.

“ I guess the first time Mama held me / she could see it in my eyes / She named me after two flowers / ’cause I was born to be wild.”

Lily Rose says these are her most honest and accurate songs. She has co-written all of them with others but they are essentially her story or how she feels.

Her name may seem to be the only thing that is dainty (her word) about her but there are meaningful and deep thoughts in her songs.

These are six powerful songs. The lyrics are Lily’s major strong point. Her voice is dynamic but tender. It is an unusual combination but she carries it off well.

Every song is unique yet they have a familiar thread.

I look forward to hearing more from Lily Rose.

  8. 8.Dry 03:29

I’ve watched Ricky grow from a baby til now. Always looming, now he’s blooming.

He hasn’t labelled his music country – but it is there. Country is many things.

I’ve watched him support Hussy Hicks and play with a couple of pretty cool and talented parents, but this is his time to shine, and he does it magnificently.

On this EEP (more than 4, less than 10 tracks) , Ricky comes into his own. He produced and engineered the record too.

There are traces of Lennonesque qualities, Paul Kelly and a fresh take on music from Ricky himself.

I recently saw Ricky with Bowtell and co in Tamworth and he just gets better each time. He’s fresh and different as is each track.

His voice has great range, which will be a great asset. This is a great launching pad for a guy who up until now, professes to just love performing.

He tackles various subjects – many mainstays of country songs.

Dry is probably my favourite, though all of the tracks have great merit.

There are some great musos on here, which enhance the EEP’s quality, but it is essentially Ricky.

This is different. It is not like anything else out there. Give it a spin.

The Single Life – 17th May, 2024

Kora Naughton – Mad About You

A shower dancing song for sure. There’s clever lyrics in this song as well as being toe tapping. There’s double entendres aplenty in this well crafted song.

Kristy Cox – Steady as the rain

Our Bluegrass gal is at it again. This is the new track and second single from her soon to be released album. Exhausted keeping up with the fast finger picking but an awesome song.

Jem-Cassar-Daley – Texas Ain’t That Far, is it dear?

Jem has one of the most pure, sweet voices in country music. This song is pretty special.

Montgomery Church – In the Sweet by and by

Woo Hoo! One of my favourite acts are back. I affectionately call them The Custards, because they are as smooth as. So beautiful, so sad. Their harmonies and musicianship are spot on. If anything, they are just getting better. Album soon please!

Watling and Bates with Thor Phillips – Alice

Talking about great duos…..these guys have been prolific lately. Different in style to the aforementioned, they are hard to box in to any particular style of country because they mix it up. I’d say it is all traditional but every song is different. This is a beaut song, could be their best yet.

Kevin Sullivan with Cha Cha and KJ) – Dianne

Sorry, meant to post this before mother’s day! Everyday is Mother’s Day, though. Great song by the family Sullivan. Especially for those of us who don’t have their mums anymore.

Robbie Mortimer – Doin’ Time

What a song. Robbie, spot on. A different angle to an old subject. Atta boy! Change of pace for Robbie but just the ticket!
