The 2022 Purple Air Guitar Awards – The Kazzies Intro and Part 1

Welcome to the 2022 Purple Air Guitar Awards or The Kazzies. There are two sections: International Country Music Awards (outside of my home country of Australia) and Australian Country Music Awards.

I am not a professional. I am simply a fan who has grown up in two of the most invested areas in New South Wales of country music. I now live in country Victoria.

The awards are based on my Totally Biased Fan Reviews of Albums and EEPs (less than 10 tracks, more than 4) and my Australian only single reviews in The Single Life.

In Australia this year, it has become a trend to just produce singles. There aren’t as many albums as there used to be, despite the renewed popularity of records (young folk call them vinyl). I still have mine from my youth and into my 20’s. I mainly have cds, but I buy from iTunes when necessary. I can’t afford to buy every release, but I think that most of the 94 types of country music are represented here.

My favourite eras of American Country Music – the 1990’s and the 1970’s – seem to have a new wave in a lot of our current musicians, especially American fellas. That’s a good thing. It was one of two of my toughest categories to judge this year. In the last few years, women have dominated, but the guys were amazing this year.

The other category was Australian duos – every one in this category deserves to win. There isn’t a physical award given out or money. I do this out of love – both ways.

There are fun awards and serious awards. A lot of these amazing artists never get any recognition for their efforts. This is my small way of thanking them for the pleasure that they give me and in the hope that at least one person will go out and listen, buy a copy of their work or go to a gig.

We have lost some champions, this year, including Loretta, Naomi and Olivia. We will never forget them or what they have given us as music fans.

Thank you. Enjoy!
